I planned this trip for my mother’s 65th birthday. My 35th also fell in the middle of the trip. East Africa delivered an unforgettable trip! We visited Rwanda for gorilla trekking/genocide museum, then Tanzania for Lake Manyara, Serengeti, Tarangire, Ngorongoro. Tons of animals, many up close. Comfortable and safe accommodations. Safe and delicious food. Our driver guides were Emmanuel in Rwanda and Ukadi in Tanzania. Both were extremely knowledgeable and personable. We always felt safe and taken care of. We called Ukadi “eagle eyes” because of his incredible animal spotting ability wherever we were! He also arranged a surprise birthday celebration for me at our lodge on my birthday! East Africa was also able to do a last minute lodge change so we could stay at a lodge with a view of the crater. The view was incredible!!
I give this trip an A+ all around. There were a few bumps along the way, but nothing out of the ordinary for this type of travel. Fred was always available via email/phone for my questions or concerns. He also kindly arranged our last two days in Kigali after the safari which was immensely helpful, especially at the end of our whirlwind trip across Africa! Highly recommend this company!
1.)The Serengeti is dustier than I had realized and they burn grasses throughout the day. I recommend a bandana or similar to avoid inhaling dust/smoke for days on end. Recommend plenty of inhalers, other necessary meds for people with asthma/COPD.
2.) We chose to fly in and out of Rwanda. Returning to Rwanda from Kili was a day long process: Kili>Zanzibar>Nairobi>Bujumbura>Kigali! It was an overall smooth experience with Kenya Airways, but I wouldn’t do it again.
3.) Recommend staying at Hotel des Milles Collines in Kigali, the historical hotel featured in the film “Hotel Rwanda”.
Again, a fantastic trip and fantastic job done by this company! Thanks!
