Gondar safari from Addis Ababa

Day 1. Addis Ababa

Meet the driver at Bole international Airport then transfer to your reserved Hotel. After taking some rest drive to Entoto Mountains with views over the capital, as we drive up the hill there is an appreciable drop in altitude and the air is filled with the scent of the Eucalyptus trees which are lined on the road. From the top, there is a panoramic view of the capital and surrounding countryside. Entoto is an important watershed, to the north water flows to the Blue Nile, to the south to the Awash River. Entoto was soon abandoned as a site for the capital – it was cold, difficult to provision and there was a shortage of wood. Empress Taytu was said to have led the move down to the plain of Finfine, and to have named the new capital Addis Ababa, or New Flower. Visit National Archaeological Museum: The National Museum contains a wide array of Ethiopian historical artifacts focusing on the pre- Aksumite, Aksumite, Solomonic, and Gonderine periods. It also has a wide array of Ethiopian art ranging from 14th century parchment to 20th century canvas oil paintings by leading modern Ethiopian artists. The museum houses anthropological and archaeological displays including Lucy, the fossilized hominid discovered in 1974.

After lunch visit Markato, Africa’s open-air Market: the largest market area in Africa where virtually every possible commodity is on sale from live stock to computers, for the visitors good at the bargaining there is a huge selection of Ethiopian arts and crafts. Explore the highlights of the Merkato which is the “recycling market” where old tires are turned into sandals, corrugated iron is made into metal buckets, and olive oil tins from Italy are made into coffee roasters and scoops. Overnight in Hotel.

Day 2. Addis Ababa – Lalibela

Transfer to Airport for your Addis Ababa to Lalibela flight. Ethiopia was a monarchy for most of its history, the very ancient civilization existed on earth, having its culture and traditions dating back to 3000 years and is famed for its age old mysterious archeological findings and ancient civilizations which are supposed to have commenced during the preAxumite kingdom of today’s Axum. – Your Lalibela visit will struck you with the ages of its antiquities and the remarkable quality and advanced design that went in to the indicating a level of culture and technology virtually unsurpassed in the ancient world. Lalibela, internationally renowned rock hewn churches known as the “eighth wonder of the world” the Lalibela rock hewn churches, physically praised from the rock in which they stand, these towering edifices seem to be a superhuman creation in scale workman ship and concepts. Some are sculptured out of solid volcanic churches; others are connected by long underground tunnel and mazes. Some are quarried enlargements of caves. After lunch visit the first group of the six churches lies in rock cradles one behind the other: Bet Golgotha, Bet Mikeal, bête Mariam, bet Maskel, Bet Dangal and Bet Medhanealem. Bet Medhane’alem the largest one in the world is built like a Greek temple, in corner are three empty graves symbolically dug for biblical patriarchs, Abraham, Isac and Jacob. Day 3. Lalibela

After breakfast you will visit the second group of the church which are located south of the river Jordan comprise of Bet Giyorgis. Possibly the most elegant of all the Lalibela churches. Lies somewhat isolated in the south west part of the village on a slopping rock

terrace. It can only be reached through a tunnel. The group of four, south of the river Jordan river comprises of Bet Emanuel, bet Mercurios, Bet Aba Libanos, and bet Gabriel and Rufeal. Emanuel’s elaborated exterior is much praised by art historians and some nearby churches of Lalibela. In the Evening, we will attend special coffee ceremony at Local house. Buna (coffee) is the favorite drink of many Ethiopians. It is drunk in a unique and traditional way called the coffee ceremony. The coffee beans are roasted over charcoal then ground and placed in a Jebena (coffee pot) with boiling water. When ready it is served to people in small cups, up to three per ceremony. The first cup is called Abool, the second Tona, and the third Bereka. This is a social ceremony and will last at least for half an hour.

Day 4. Lalibela – Gondar

After Breakfast drive 23km to Airport for your Lalibela to Gondar flight. Afternoon you will have city tour of Gondar. Gondar is best known for its 17th century castles and palaces. After visiting the castles walk 2 km per way to visit the fantastically decorated church of Debrebirhan Selasse (Light of the Trinity) with beautiful fresco and paintings. Finally, you will visit to Bath of Fasiledes, filled with water once a year for the Timket Celebration (Epiphany). Walk back to your hotel. Overnight in Hotel / Lodge

Day 5. Gondar – Bahir Dar

After breakfast drive to Bahir dar. Bahirdar, Serving as the capital town of the Amhara regional state, the most dominant tribe in Ethiopian history, an attractive town, well layout with palm, African tulip and some indigenous tree lined avenues and with the blue of the lake in the background. Lake Tana, Ethiopia’s largest lake is 65km wide and 95km long is found in this beautiful town. Tana is dotted with not less than 37 islands, on many of, which are found churches and monasteries. After lunch boat ride over Lake Tana and visit the 14th c. round, grass roofed church and its magnificent wall mural. The Ura Kidane Mihret church which is found hidden within the mangroves forest of the Zeghie peninsula. The architectural style is a typical example of Ethiopian Orthodox Church having mud plastered round wall with conical thatched roof. Overnight in Hotel or Lodge.

Day 6. Bahir Dar – Addis Ababa

After breakfast drive to the magnificent blue Nile falls, it is locally known as Tisissat(Smoking water) 100m(328Feet) wide, the water plunges for 45m(148ft), it is

about 35km/45min drive from the town and depending on the fluctuation at the nearby dam, it may give rise to steam clouds and rainbow. Drive back to Bahir Dar and after lunch transfer to airport for your Bahir Dar to Addis Ababa flight. Up on arrival in Addis transfer to Bole international Airport for departure

Gondar safari from Addis Ababa

Day 1. Addis Ababa
